Stéphane PENNEC, contemporary design with a sobriety
Stéphane PENNEC invents and designs pieces of furniture which are resolutely contemporary, and bearing the key words: Respect of Matter. Influenced by Belgian and French Art Nouveau, as well as Scandinavian Minimalism, his creations are elegant and of pure sobriety. His furniture are remarkable in the way that they mingle several different wood essences so as to create contrast. Stéphane loves furniture with a personality of their own and he perfects the art of surprise: subtle geometry, alchemy of essences or colours, all of which contain tricky secret drawers.
A Path of Passion
Having trained in urbanism and worked several years in the field of city planning, Stéphane decided to switch to something more visual, tactile, practical: woodwork, his original passion. Breton by birth, he left for Tournai in Belgium to train at the Institution Saint Luc during three years. He obtained the Prix du Jury du meuble massif (solid wood) in 2016 for his desk made of walnut and also the Prix du Mérite in 2017, a lifetime achievement award. He was also the laureate for the MatériO Prize in Septembrer 2017, awarded by the World Crafts Council of Francophone Belgium.
FRA'K, a chest of drawers, emblem of his savoir-faire
FRA'K is a very peculiar chest of drawers, springing out of Stéphane's imagination: it seems as if a boulder had fallen onto its top and fractureded it, giving it its K-shape. It is hard to imagine giving a functionality to this piece of furniture-sculpture at first sight, as everything is cleverly hidden: fitting cases, front drawers, side drawers, concealed runners, hidden handles, secret drawers and compartments,... an achievement of great modernity, in the pure woodwork tradition of French 'Ebénisterie'!
Stéphane PENNEC regularly exhibits his exceptional projects during the Journées du Patrimoine or in exhibitions dedicated to contemporary design and to mastercrafts, in France and in Belgium.
